The brief
A young family had outgrown their existing home and wanted to start again on the same block — a build that would feel generous without being oversized, and that would step down comfortably with the slope of the site. The priority was an open-plan living space the whole family could share, with the kitchen at its heart.
Approach
We worked from concept through to handover, coordinating architect, engineer and council so the owners had a single point of accountability. The north-facing orientation was the strongest design lever on site, and the plan was set around it — living, kitchen and dining all share the long northern elevation, with deep eaves to manage summer sun.
Materials and details
- Engineered oak floorboards through all primary living spaces
- Stone benchtops and a full-height stone splashback in the kitchen
- Custom joinery in oak veneer with integrated appliances
- Double-glazed aluminium windows throughout
Outcome
A home that reads as calm and quiet from the street, then opens up to the north once you’re inside. The family moved in on schedule and on budget, with snag list closed inside two weeks of handover.
